In Fall 2023, Canada will be welcoming about 11,000 applicants from Colombia, Haiti and Venezuela in a new Humanitarian Permanent Residence Pathway. This announcement was made on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 by Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marc Miller following Canada’s commitment to welcoming 15,000 migrants on a humanitarian basis from the Western Hemisphere during Joe Biden’s visit to Canada in March 2023.
Only eligible applicants who have extended families in Canada will be qualified for this pathway. The applicant must have a relationship with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident either by being a child, grandchild, parent, grand-parent, sibling or spouse.
Canada plans to provide pre-arrival services to applicants which includes employment skills assessment and a reference to a settlement provider organization in their selected community.
This is a step in the right direction and we look forward to the commencement of this program by IRCC.
