Dear future neighbour,
Thinking about building your future in Atlantic Canada? Newfoundland and Labrador just made 75 workers very happy.
On November 2 and November 4, 2026, the province held two draws and invited 75 foreign workers to move toward Canadian permanent residence. Of these, 74 invitations went through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), and 1 went through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
Here is how the numbers were split:
| Date of draw | Invitations issued: NLPNP | Invitations issued: AIP |
|---|---|---|
| Nov. 4 | 24 | 1 |
| Nov. 2 | 50 | N/A |
What happens after you get an invitation?
Getting invited is exciting, but the clock starts ticking right away. Candidates have 30 days to submit a complete application. NLPNP candidates apply for nomination, and AIP candidates apply for endorsement. Once approved, they can apply to the federal government for permanent residence.
There is also good news for people already working in Canada. NLPNP nominees who are in the country can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) once they submit their PR application. That lets them keep working while they wait.
AIP candidates are not eligible for a BOWP. They may qualify for an employer-specific work permit valid for up to two years instead.
A look at 2026 so far
The November 4 draw was the fourth this year to include just one AIP invitation. Here is how all of the province’s draws have looked in 2026:
| Date of draw | Invitations issued: NLPNP | Invitations issued: AIP |

| Nov. 4 | 24 | 1 |

| Oct. 23 | 120 | N/A |
| Oct. 16 | 125 | 1 |
| Oct. 9 | 130 | 1 |
| Sept. 25 | 41 | N/A |
| Sept. 18 | 61 | 1 |
| Sept. 10 | 36 | N/A |
| Sept. 4 | 97 | N/A |
| Aug. 26 | 94 | 46 |
| Aug. 18 | 122 | N/A |
| Aug. 10 | 186 | 22 |
| July 28 | 400 | 45 |
| July 10 | 17 | 40 |
| June 10 | 89 | 19 |
| May 28 | 84 | 19 |
| May 11 | 168 | 18 |
| May 1 | 157 | 33 |
| April 13 | 177 | 33 |
| March 30 | 209 | 36 |
| March 6 | 362 | 83 |
The province has held 22 draws this year. Most of them invited candidates from both programs, but six drew only from the NLPNP.
As of November 4, Newfoundland and Labrador has issued 3,232 invitations in 2026. Of these, 2,824 went to NLPNP candidates and 408 went to AIP candidates.
How the province picks who gets invited
Newfoundland and Labrador uses an Expression of Interest (EOI) system for both programs. Here is how it works:
- You submit an EOI profile if you qualify for the AIP or one of the NLPNP streams.
- Your profile goes into the matching candidate pool, where the province reviews it.
- From time to time, the province runs a draw and invites selected candidates to apply.
- A job offer is required to be considered under either program.
The province also gives priority to certain candidates. These include people working in the health sector, people working outside major urban centres, and graduates of local post-secondary schools. The province keeps a longer list of priorities on its EOI Prioritization Criteria page, so it is worth a look.
One more detail to keep in mind is that a temporary measure currently gives invited candidates 30 days to respond, instead of the usual 60. That leaves little room for delays, so having your documents ready early makes a big difference.
A successful application earns a nomination or endorsement certificate. That certificate lets you apply for PR with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Ready to Make Your Move to Newfoundland and Labrador?
The big takeaway from these draws is that the province is actively inviting workers, but the process has real rules and tight deadlines. You need a job offer, a strong EOI profile, and a complete application ready within 30 days of an invitation. Missing any of those can cost you a chance you may not get back.
You do not have to figure it out alone. Our team can guide you through provincial nomination, Express Entry, work permits, postgraduate work permits, spousal sponsorship, visitor visas, super visas, citizenship applications, and school admissions. Whether you are just exploring or already preparing your EOI, we can look at your situation and point you to the route that fits you best.
