If you’ve had your eyes on Prince Edward Island as your path to Canadian permanent residence, this is the update you’ve been waiting for. On July 16, PEI issued invitations to 195 candidates through its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP); the largest single draw the province has held so far in 2026.

What actually happened

The province invited candidates through two of its main channels:

• the Labour Impact category (which covers the Skilled Worker Stream, Critical Worker Stream, and International Graduate Stream) and
• the PEI Express Entry stream.

As usual, PEI gave priority to international graduates from its own post-secondary institutions:

• University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI)
• Holland College
• Collège de l’Île

This has been the case for every single draw the province has run in 2026, so if you studied at one of these schools, your odds just got a lot better.

PEI actually tells you when the next draws are coming

Here’s something that sets PEI apart from most other provinces: it publishes its entire year’s draw schedule ahead of time, so you’re never left guessing.

The remaining tentative dates for 2026 are:

• August 20
• September 17
• October 15
• November 19
• December 17

Worth keeping in mind: these dates aren’t set in stone. PEI has stuck closely to its published schedule though – six of seven draws so far this year landed exactly when planned, and the province matched its own calendar eight out of eleven times in 2025 too. So while nothing’s guaranteed, history says you can plan around these dates with reasonable confidence.

How you get picked

Getting an invitation isn’t random. PEI scores every Expression of Interest based on:

• How well you speak English or French
• Your education level, field of study, and where you studied
• Whether your work experience matches occupations the province actually needs filled
• How well you fit PEI’s current labour market priorities
• Extra points if you already have a PEI job offer or Canadian work experience

The stronger your profile lines up with these factors, the better your chances of getting invited. Once you do get that invitation, you’ll have 30 calendar days to submit a full application for provincial nomination; so it pays to have your documents ready before the invitation even arrives. After nomination, the final step is applying to IRCC for permanent residence.
