On July 22, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 4,000 candidates to apply for permanent residency through its most recent Express Entry draw.

This round focused on 37 occupations within the healthcare and social services sectors.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score had fallen to 475,  a decrease of 29 points compared to the previous healthcare and social services draw held in June 2025.

Canada conducted its latest Express Entry draw on July 21, 2025, and it’s good news for those who have been nominated by a Canadian province through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

What Does This Mean?

This draw was only for candidates who had already received a provincial nomination. A provincial nomination gives applicants an automatic 600 extra points on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. That’s why the cut-off score is quite high. Without that 600 boost, most candidates wouldn’t be able to reach this score.

If you were invited in this draw, it means you are now officially being invited to apply for permanent residence (PR) in Canada.

What Happens Next for Invited Candidates?

If you received an invitation:

1.You’ll have 60 days to submit your full permanent residence application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

2.You’ll need to provide all required documents (police checks, medical exams, proof of funds, etc.).

3.IRCC will then process your application—processing times can vary, but PNP applicants are usually prioritized.

What If You Weren’t Invited?

Don’t worry! Canada runs different types of Express Entry draws.

If you are not nominated through a province, you could still qualify through other categories, such as:

•Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – For people already working in Canada.

•Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) – For skilled workers with experience abroad.

•Category-based draws – For people in specific industries like healthcare, tech, or those with strong French language skills.

New Minimum Funds Required for Express Entry to Canada

Canada has just updated the minimum amount of money required for Express Entry applicants to be eligible. If you’re planning to immigrate through programs like the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

On July 7, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) boosted the minimum required settlement funds across the board by approximately CAD $500—adjusted annually based on 50 % of Canada’s low-income cut-off (LICO).

These new amounts apply to applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)—two streams managed through the Express Entry system.

Important Deadline: July 28, 2025

If you’re already in the Express Entry pool, you must update your “Settlement funds” section to reflect these new amounts by July 28, 2025, to remain eligible. Luckily, doing so doesn’t affect your original profile submission date or CRS ranking .

Who Needs to Show Funds?

  • You need to show proof of funds if:

    • You’re applying under FSWP or FSTP

    • You don’t have a job offer in Canada

    You don’t need to show funds if:

    • You’re applying under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

    • You have a valid job offer and are authorized to work in Canada

Even if you’re exempt, you must still upload a letter of explanation stating your exemption (e.g., CEC invitation or job offer details).

What Counts as Proof of Funds?

Acceptable documentation includes:

  • Official bank letters on institution letterhead, including:

    • Account holder’s name

    • Account numbers, open dates

    • Current balances and 6‑month average

    • Outstanding debts, if any

    • Bank contact details (address, phone, email)

  • The money must be readily available and not locked in investments or borrowed.

DON’T include: Property equity, borrowed money, investments not readily accessible .

Joint bank accounts are acceptable, though you must prove access if the account isn’t solely in your name.

What Do You Need to Do Now?

  1. Check your Express Entry profile

  2. Update your settlement funds if required

  3. Gather updated bank letters

  4. Upload a letter of explanation if you’re exempt

As noted, Express Entry issues roughly 100,000 ITAs annually, making it crucial to meet eligibility criteria without delay .

Alberta invites over 130 Candidates in two targeted AAIP Draws

On June 20, Alberta focused on the agriculture sector, inviting individuals who are already working in farming or related fields within the province.

With a relatively low score requirement of just 52 points, this draw gave a clear message: Alberta needs workers who are helping feed the country and keep rural economies running.

Just five days later, Alberta held a much smaller but equally important draw this time aimed at people with construction experience inviting fewer candidates were selected. From electricians to heavy equipment operators, the province is looking for tradespeople who can help build homes, roads, and infrastructure across Alberta’s growing cities and towns.

Why These Draws Matter

Alberta is choosing to invite people who are already making a difference in the province especially in industries where workers are in short supply. These draws aren’t just about filling jobs, they’re about helping communities grow and thrive.

So far this year, the AAIP has nominated 2,688 candidates from its total allocation of 4,875. This means 2,187 nomination spots are still available for eligible applicants in the months ahead.

Qualifying for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the three main immigration streams under Canada’s Express Entry system, alongside the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

This program is tailored for individuals who have gained skilled work experience within Canada and are seeking a pathway to permanent residency. It’s especially popular among international graduates and temporary foreign workers aiming to make Canada their long-term home.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Canadian Work Experience
Applicants must have completed at least one year of skilled work in Canada within the last three years.
This can be either full-time employment or an equivalent amount of part-time work. The job must fall under NOC TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3.

2. Language Requirements
A minimum CLB score of:

  • 7 for TEER 0 or 1 occupations

  • 5 for TEER 2 or 3 roles
    is required in either English or French.
    Achieving higher language scores such as CLB 9 or above can give your application a stronger CRS score in the Express Entry pool.

3. Admissibility
Candidates must be legally eligible to enter Canada. This includes meeting the medical and criminal background requirements.

4. Express Entry Profile

Eligibility for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

To qualify for the Canadian Experience Class, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

1. Canadian Work Experience

  • Candidates need to have completed at least one year of full-time skilled employment in Canada (or an equivalent amount of part-time work, totaling 1,560 hours) within the past three years.

  • The work must fall under NOC TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3, which cover management, professional, technical, and skilled trades positions.

  • Part-time employment is acceptable as long as the total hours meet the required threshold (e.g., 15 hours per week over two years).

  • Self-employed work and jobs completed while studying full-time (like co-op placements) are not eligible.

2. Language Requirements

  • For jobs classified under TEER 0 or 1, a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 is required (equivalent to IELTS 6.0 in each skill area for English).

  • For TEER 2 or 3 positions, a minimum of CLB 5 is necessary.

  • Acceptable language tests include IELTS, CELPIP (for English), or TEF and TCF (for French).

3. Residency and Work Authorization

  • Applicants must have had valid temporary resident status and proper authorization to work in Canada while gaining their required work experience (such as holding a work permit).

  • While applications can be submitted from inside or outside Canada, this pathway primarily targets those with direct Canadian work experience.

4. Express Entry Pool Registration

  • Candidates must create a profile in the Express Entry system and meet or exceed the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score threshold in a relevant draw.

  • There is no fixed minimum CRS score for receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA), as cut-off scores can vary with each draw.

5. Additional Considerations

  • There is no mandatory education requirement to apply under the CEC, but higher education levels can significantly improve an applicant’s CRS score.

  • Candidates must be admissible to Canada, meaning they cannot have medical issues or criminal records that would prevent entry.

The smaller number of invitations in this and recent draws reflects Canada’s updated Immigration Levels Plan for 2025–2027. The plan focuses on bringing in skilled workers who match the country’s job market needs.

For 2025, Canada has lowered its immigration target to 395,000 permanent residents. The IRCC is now giving priority to applicants with provincial nominations, work experience in Canada, or strong French language skills.

If a candidate doesn’t receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) within one year, they can submit a new Express Entry profile, as long as they still meet the eligibility criteria. The new profile will have a fresh submission timestamp, which could affect selection due to IRCC’s tie-breaking rule used in draws.

After receiving an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application. Once submitted, the government aims to process the application within six months, starting from the day it’s received until a final decision is made.
